Book of Eibon

On this wiki, the manga and it's related plotline and concepts take precedent.

This page will tell the FANDOM's stance on the "Canon" status of material present within the Soul Eater franchise and how our new users as well as pre-existing users are to view it as a whole.

Definition

Canon is defined as accepted "official" fictional material in a individual universe.

What decides Canon?

Only the author, Atsushi Ohkubo, and official companies who work with the author can decide what is canon & non-canon. It is not up to fans or a community to decide. One must understand that personal preferences, opinions, etc. do not merit in any discussion on canon. It is up to those who have the licenses, credibility, permissions, etc. to decide. Soul Eater is their story to tell. Let's give them the proper respect in that regard, no matter how much we may dislike/love what is written or presented.

On this FANDOM site, to preserve the objectivity of this subject, we have decided to split the series we cover into several different categories. We ask that all users understand that this status is made in an effort to eliminate any personal bias and allow those with actual permission to decide, not a community or group of fans.

Canon Status

Primary Canon

The Soul Eater & Soul Eater Not! manga series are the primary, canon series. These includes the anime & manga of both series. This also includes any official guidebooks or audio-books written by Ohkubo that covers the fictional universe such as:

Secondary Canon

The anime Soul Eater and Soul Eater NOT! are recognized as a secondary canon.

This means even though these works are not directly done by Ohkubo like the mangas, they have the permissions from the said author and are considered just as canon as Ohkubo's work, despite whatever contradictions may occur. If contradictions are made, the FANDOM should be able to note such things and provide clairty with facts from the manga. The Soul Eater FANDOM should also be sure to specify anime-only instances. When making additions from anything from the anime series, be sure to use the Anime Instance template when possible. Keep in mind, however, the anime of Soul Eater and Soul Eater NOT! are not directly connected. The anime of Soul Eater deviates after a certain points and has various contradictions and even adds new concepts such as the Kishin-egg. The Soul Eater NOT! anime, however, follows much more closely to the manga, though it differs in details and condenses a lot of the chapters in the Soul Eater NOT! manga and deviates slightly towards the very end. As a result, it also follows the timeline that the manga of Soul Eater presents.

It should be mentioned that Episode 17, while appeared as "filler", did not and counts as an anime-only episode much like the rest of Episodes 36-51

Filler

Filler is defined as anime only material in which is used "fill" in time and prevent an anime from catching up to the manga. Because Soul Eater and Soul Eater NOT! anime has deviated rather then follow the entirety of it's source material, the Soul Eater FANDOM recognizes no filler.

While there's an anime only episode Episode 17 in Soul Eater ,this is not counted as filler.

Non Canon

Non Canon is material that is not considered "official" in any given universes of either Primary or Secondary canon. Only the video game, Soul Eater: Monotone Princess, is considered this.

Contradictions

At times, contradictions may be made within either canon or non canon series. Whether it be in the manga or the anime of Soul Eater and it's various spin-offs, video-games, etc. Before editing on the FANDOM, understand that contradictions are going to be made. Authors and companies alike can too make errors due to being human beings. However, this doesn't mean contradictions within a certain media makes it automatically not canon. Be respectful to the creators and do not mislabel such things on the FANDOM.
