Pyramid Anubis (ピラミッドアヌビス, Pyramiddo Anubisu) was a ancient structure housing the a ancient Phraoh. After a mission involving Death the Kid stopping a necromancer witch, the pyramid was later destroyed.[1]
Synopsis[]
Prologues arc[]
When the necromancer Samantha starts controlling the dead inside the Pyramid Anubis to multiply and create an army of the dead, Death the Kid, Liz Thompson and Patty Thompson go there to investigate, but Kid ends up going temporarily home to make sure if all of his picture frames are straight (due to his obsessions). Meanwhile, Samantha succeeds in resurrecting the Wrath of the Pharaoh--which proceeds to eat her. Liz and Patty, after dispatching the Witch's army of mummies, arrive in the Pharaoh's chamber, where he captures them. Thankfully, Kid comes back just in time and the three do battle with the pharaoh, who is attacking from inside his sarcophagus. Kid, at first, cannot attack as the sarcophagus is perfectly symmetrical, and is severely injured, but once the pharaoh comes out of his sarcophagus, revealing his hideous true form, Kid, furious at his ugliness, blasts it to pieces, heavily damaging the pyramid. After leaving, the pyramid ends up crumbling into pieces, much to Kid's dismay. As punishment for breaking the pyramid, Death confiscates all of the evil human souls that Kid had collected so far.[1]
Location[]
Pyramid Anbuis was located somewhere in Egypt.[1]
Design[]
Exterior[]
Having been built at a time when the rules of architecture followed the strict rules of symmetry, the Pyramid of Anubis is (or was) a greatly symmetrical building. A step-pyramid with a giant statue of a white jackal patterned with red and blue (in the manga, the statue is black or dark grey) perches on one of the steps, with its tail pointing straight at the sky. Various pillars fashioned to look like hawks stand before the steps leading to the pyramid's entrance, located directly beneath the jackal statue's nose.[1]
Interior[]
The pyramid is equally symmetrical inside, with intricately patterned archways and eerie stone sphinx heads set across each wall down every dark passageway. After the long winding passageways, one reaches the main tomb of the pyramid's pharaoh, a large grand room with flaming torches on either side and two stone sphinx heads. The pharaoh's perfectly symmetrical and intricately carved sarcophagus is located at the far end of the tomb.[1]
Trivia[]
- The name of the pyramid comes from the ancient Egyptian god of the dead, Anubis. His theme of death is rather suitable for the Soul Eater series. Anubis is often depicted with having the head of a jackal, which explains the jackal statue at the pyramid's entrance.
- Pyramid Anubis first appeared in a trio of short stories before Soul Eater became a serialized series. Much as he had done in setting his previous manga B. Ichi not in the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo, Japan, but in the parodic fictional Chinjuku district of Toykyo, Japon,[2] Ohkubo referred to the Pyramid's location as Hegypt (ヘジプト Hejiputo) a parody of Egypt. The Yen Press English ebook translation from April 2014 changed the translation to refer to the location as Egypt.[3]
