—Eruka, Episode 23
He is a very loyal and hard-working Magic Lifeform, always doing his best to serve Eruka, even if it means putting himself in harm's way.
Unlike other Witches with their Magic Lifeforms the two seem to share a close friendship with each other despite Eruka's apparent dominant role in the relationship, with even the normally docile Eruka reprimanding Free after he only slightly injures Jackson. Jackson in turn is extremely loyal to Eruka, going so far as to help pass her the needle of Black Blood that is supposed to reawaken Asura before Black☆Star can get at it, resulting in the tadpole getting beaten up by Black☆Star. Eruka laments over this, and decides to fulfill the mission solely for Jackson's sake.
His main function is to act as a mount for Eruka, using his large size and capability to fly to aid his master in whatever way possible. Otama Jackson has very low stamina, and cannot fight at all, making him easily exhausted and extremely vulnerable to attack.
- Flight: Otama Jackson is seen having the ability of Flight, often as a mount for Eruka.
Part in the StoryEdit
Otama Jackson plays an important role during Medusa's plan to reawaken Asura, acting as Eruka's mount carrying her and the needle full of Black Blood to where Asura is sealed. Otama Jackson also ends up briefly being Free's mount when he uses Spatial Magic: Forwarding Vision, much to Eruka's chagrin as Jackson ends up being hurt during this. Later, when Black☆Star is about to steal the needle from them, Jackson manages to pass the needle to Eruka, which ends up in him being beaten up by Black☆Star.
After Asura's revival, Jackson successfully escapes with Eruka, Mizune and Free.
- Otama Jackson's name is a combination on the Japanese word for 'tadpole' (オタマジャクシ Otama Jakushi) and the English name 'Jackson.' Some say that it is a possible reference to Michael Jackson.
- Otama Jackson also resembles Eruka's Tadpole Bombs. It is unknown whether the Tadpole Bombs were inspired from Otama Jackson's appearance or the other way around.
- He appears as a non-playable character in Soul Eater: Battle Resonance
