Plot

A Jot Older

At the DWMA library, Jacqueline O. Lantern Dupré is engrossed in a book about witches, learning that many of them live more than 100 years without showing any sign of aging. Jacqueline panics what this information means about Kim Diehl: “What if she’s been around the block a few times already? What if she’s been divorced?”

Jackie later asks KIm to confirm her age. Kim finally says she has let Jacqueline’s disrespect for her elders to pass, toying with Jackie to think she is very old when, really, she is only sixteen.

A Jot Shorter

Soul Eater NOT Chapter 26 - NOT students' heights

Anya is shorter than Tsugumi and Meme

Returning to the dormitory with Tsugumi Harudori, Anya Hepburn is surprised Meme cannot remember the events of the day. As Meme Tatane suggests a bath, the trio remove their shoes, noticing that Anya wears heels. Anya claims she is used to wearing them when Tsugumi notices that, without her heels, Anya is actually a little shorter than Meme and Tsugumi. Insulted, Anya criticizes Tsugumi’s bust size. Meme, feeling left out, insults her own weight.

A Jot Wrong?

While in Death City, Tsugumi is impressed that Meme remembers her and Anya’s names. It turns out that Meme used to refer to Tsugumi as the names of other birds, such as “Tsubame” and “Suzume.” Meme then remembers (or makes up) the worst misnomer she gave to Tsugumi--”Galappagos blue-footed booby-chan!”—which embarrasses Tsugumi.

Anya then says Meme used to call her animal noises such as “Nya,” “Awoof,” “Aroar,” and even “A-Cock-A-Doodle-Doo,” the memory of which raises Anya’s ire but leaves Meme wondering whether she ever used such a chicken name for Tsugumi.

The Most Powerful Animal I Can Imagine Is Too Cute

Soul Eater NOT Chapter 26 - Moses the Sheep

Moses the Sheep

In a meadow, Moses the sheep is so greedy that he consumes so much grass that he leaves a wasteland wherever he wanders. Having consumed so much, he balloons—and flies into the sky, where a friendly sun smiles onto the ground, and into the night, where the moon gives a friendly grin. After days and nights, Moses lands again on the ground in a new land with so many new plants. He falls asleep before over-consuming this land.

It is revealed that the tale is illustrated by Kim, who is proud of her work—until Tsugumi’s arrival leads her to hide her drawings.

Manga and Anime Differences

Trivia

  • Jackie’s textbook on witches features an array and the silhouette of a witch riding a broom.
  • This chapter reveals that Anya is the shortest of the trio. She also misinterprets Tsugumi’s statement of this fact as an insult, asking “Who are you calling a teensy little green bean!?” Anya’s anger may be an allusion to the manga and anime Fullmetal Alchemist, which shares with Soul Eater NOT! a manga publisher (Square Enix) and an animation studio (Studio BONES). The creators of Fullmetal Alchemist and Soul Eater, Heromu Arakawa and Atsushi Ohkubo, also have created art for each other featuring the other’s characters.
  • Meme’s concerns about her weight are referred to again, and will be in the future.
  • The fiction behind Kim’s story is apparent when the sun and the moon look differently than usual.
